Fall 2007 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
Box Canyon, Apache Rocks, and South of Divide Mining Areas
l'hc overburden depth to the E-seam in the shaft excavation area is approximately =t•O0 feet. The
depth of the colluvium and local landslide material is estimated to be in the range of 75 to 12~
feet.
Projected long~vall panels EI through Eli underlie the Dty Fork valley and its tributaries
upstream from the mouth of Deer Creek to the SOD mining permit boundary (figure 27).
Although as much as 14 feet of coal is projected to be mined in the E-seam. subsidence effects
are expected to be less than in the Box Canyon and Apache Rocks mining areas because the
topography is more subdued and fewer cliff areas are present (see Table 2, Appendix A, t~~r
details).
~• ~ e4..
`~ ,•
`' ~ -.«
S ' {o ..
'd ~ ~~; .
~' ~ { '
w. - !;
_ :~'

~ r -+r7~ ~~.~~ f 'y ~ rat - { ~.~ r- ._' `4~rj ~ ~ ~~
• ~ ~.a •, ~~~
Vic.; L ~ ~'. ~ ~ ~ ~K « fir' ~~j~~~'~"~4;~,, ~ f `r
Ski, ~R; s~: ~~~~~r+ ~R':~'^.i4•.~ - _`~ ~, .~-.. ~.'-l,''~ c,
. .,~, ~~~ ,;r'w4,,
' a ~ ~ ,
r ~ '~.
t j~~ s~ -
r f '
Figure 27. Mount Gunnison is in the right background; West Beckwith Peak is in
the Iefi background. Overburden depth to the E-seam in this field of view ranges from about 600 to 1,200 feet.
•
831-032.780 Wright Water Engineers, Inc. Page 41
November 2007
