• Abstract <br />A Class III cultural resource inventory of approximately 200 acres (80.8 ha) was carried out <br />for National King Coal on two parcels overlying proposed underground coal mining operations <br />in the Hay Gulch area, southwest of Hesperus, La Plata County, Colorado (Figures 1 and 2). Both <br />are privately owned with subsurface federal minerals. The survey was carried out on July 10 <br />and 11, 1997 by Laurens C. and Nancy S. Hammack of Complete Archaeological Service <br />Associates (CASA). This project was carried out in compliance with applicable historic <br />preservation legislation and laws. The field work, on private lands, was undertaken under the <br />provisions of BLM CRUP No. C-39285. <br />Two Isolated Finds, 5LP2738 and 5LP2739, were located. 5LP2738 consists of a quartzite <br />core chopper fragment and a banded chalcedony utilized flake. 5LP2739 consists of a projectile <br />point and two unutilized flakes. <br /> <br />• <br />July 1997' <br />
