III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (Division). This processing and loadout site has been
inactive since June 2001 after the closure of the Lorencito Mine (#C-96-084). Ground
conditions on this day were dry and the weather was cool and breezy.
Availability of Records
The public copy of the mine records is kept at the office of Peak Project Management (PPM).
The contact, address, and phone number for PPM is Ron Thompson, Peak Project
Management, 34115 County Road 20.8, Trinidad, CO 81082, 719-846-4975. Records were
found in compliance as detailed on page 2a of this report
Signs and Markers
Stream buffer signs are located at numerous locations on the north and south side of the
Purgatoire River. Recurrent windy conditions have taken a toll on these signs. The operator
should repair and replace these signs in accordance with Rule 4.02.
Roads
The access road to the RDA has been recently regraded. The surface was smooth with no
ruts or erosional features. Culverts were found clear of sediment and debris. Roads at the
facility area remain in good condition due to minimal traffic.
