' Connell plans to mine to the claystone bedrock. The claystone is generally competent and will
withstand erosional forces. However, some aeeas might not contain marketable sand and gravel
' down to the bedrock. This areas will remain exposed until the reservoir is filled with water. To help
suppress dust, Connell will consider seeding aeeas of the reservoir bottom that have a high potential
for dust emission.
1 Processing & Asphalt Batch Plant Site/Equpment
' The processing equipment, asphalt batch plant, and other equipment are portable and will be
removed from the site following the completion of the project.
' Grading
Grading will be done to provide stabilized shorelines around the reservoir. All backfilling will be
done using native overburden, topsoil and claystone. There are no known toxic materials in the
proposed backfill material.
' All grading will be done to prevent erosion. Final grading will be done immediately after topsoiling
has been completed. Backfilling will be completed in phases after mining is completed.
All slopes left by the mining operation will be no steeper than 3H: l V from five feet above and ten
feet below the water elevation. All other slopes will be no greater than 2H:1 V.
' Earthen berms will be place along the north, south, and east edges of the property prior to completing
mining in Phase 3. These berms will serve as a visual screen of the property.
' Topsoiline
The topsoil will stockpiled for the reclamation process. Stockpiles which remain in place longer
than one growing season will be seeded with a fast growing cover to minimize erosion. Handling
' of topsoil will be minimized by efficient sequencing of the mining.
Stripped topsoil will be stockpiled out of the floodway to reduce the risk of inhibiting the flow of
' a flood. In addition, the stockpiles will be aligned with the natural flow of the river. In Phase 2
topsoil will be temporarily stockpiled along sections of the phase perimeter and will be used to
reclaim once the aquitard is established. In Phases 1 and 3 through 7, Connell will limit the amount
of topsoil stockpiled at any one time by continuously using it to cap backfilled areas.
