Location and Size of Affected Areas <br />1. Mining and Topsoil Removal <br />New mining related disturbance during 1987 was limited <br />to 3.58 acres in the Pit No. 1 azea. All topsoil <br />removed from the Pit No. 1 azea during 1987 was placed <br />into Topsoil Stockpile No. 1, which is located imme- <br />diately east of Pit No. 1 and is 1.57 acres in size. <br />The total active mine azea at Pit No. 1 is 28.29 <br />acres. Mining is completed in the 720 Pit azea and no <br />new disturbance associated with the 720 Pit has occur- <br />red or is expected to occur. A total of 61.34 acres <br />remains open for future backfilling. The areas <br />described above aze shown on the attached 1986 Recla- <br />mation Map. <br />2. Backfilling in Progress <br />An area at the north end of the 720 Pit is in the <br />process of being backfilled with overburden from Pit <br />No. 1 and the Existing Overburden Stockpile as shown <br />on the attached 1987 Reclamation Map. This azea is <br />17.33 acres in size and ie located at the north end of <br />the 720 Pit. During the yeaz all overburden removed <br />from Pit No. 1 was hauled to and backfilled in this <br />azea. Additionally, in excess of 400,000 compacted <br />cubic yazds of overburden was removed from the Exist- <br />ing Overburden Stockpile and placed in this area. <br />3. Regraded <br />At the northern edge of the 720 Pit, 5.09 acres aze <br />backfilled and have been regraded to their approximate <br />original contour. This area will be topeoiled and <br />reseeded when enough azea is prepazed to assure no <br />-2- <br />
