TWENTYMILE COAL
FISH CREEK AVF
2002 VEGETATION SURVEY
~~~ibi~ ~
This vegetation survey for Fish Creek AVF was conducted on May 18, 2002. The
method of sampling used was Vegetative Cross-Section Composition. The
guidelines for this sampling method are laid out in the United States Department
of Agriculture (USDA) publication Monitoring the Vegetation Resource in Riaarian
Areas by Alma H. Winward.
Seven cross-section transects were sampled defining community types by pacing
steps perpendicular to the Alluvial Valley Floor (AVF). Estimations of species
percentages were made within each community type. By dividing the number of
steps for each community type by the total number of steps and multiplying by
100 the percentage of each community type within the Vansect was determined.
Transect locations were placed on the AVF map and can be field located for
future sampling.
The community types range from moist Sedge /Rush vegetation of oxbows to
Smooth Brome /Hoary Sage /Yarrow upland meadows. Woody plants in
varying percentages include Sagebrush, Shrubby Cinquefoil, Willow and
Rabbitbrush. Perennial Fortis include Yarrow, Lupine, Cinquefoil and Clover.
Perennial Grasses include Smooth Brome, Meadow Fescue and Kentucky
Bluegrass. Undesirable species were encountered in very small percentages.
The compiled data for transects one through seven follows and includes a plant
list of the survey.
5/22/2002
