Walther.
RE: Deserado Mine AHR Executive Direitoi;"''~
Permit C-81-018 Michael B. Lang
Division Director
I have completed a preliminary review of the 1999-2000 water year AHR for Deserado Mine, attached, and
am requesting that you forward the document for PHC review by a hydrologist. I noted one apparent
deficiency in my review (see attached letter to Scott Wanstedt).
There are a couple changes in the report compared to last year, that I wanted to bring to the attention of the
reviewing hydrologist I'm not sure if they are significant. First, Table 2-2 which compared bedrock well
current year water levels to prior average water levels was not included in the report Uus year. Second, on
page 8 under Ineoine Water, a paragraph which discussed seepage from geologic strata into the mine works
in some detail was deleted from the report. The issue is addressed by a brief statement on page 6 which
indicates that "B seam mining has encountered small flows, and the mine is essentially dry", On page I2
under Mining Related Hydrologic Impacts, water level impacts associated wiW specific monitoring wells
detailed in previous reports, was tmm.ry~ri„vt by the statement that "water levels declined in closb~
proximity to mine workings, and holes mined Urrough typically tamed dry." The discussion regarding
Alluvial.water Quality Data for the White River alluvium as affected by Kenney Reservoir is differeut.~ ~.
than last year.(appears to better fit the data). The discussion indicates that the observed TDS fluctuations '~
were projected in the PHC, but I'm not sure that is the case.
Let me know if you have any questions.
