approximately Aug 15. At this point the seeds are generally immature
at best.
To address these concerns we have revised the 1986 research plan. The
revision includes the same treatments, with the exception of an additional later
haying date. Two haying dates, one around August 20 and the other around
September 30 will enable us to evaluate the effect of haying during flowering and
seeding times. The August 20 haying area has been substantially reduced to
minimize the impact on flowering orchids. All treatment areas have been relocated
and/or adjusted to address the management concerns and opportunities.
The purpose of this research plan is to determine which treatment best suits
the orchids so that this may be used to develop a management plan to sustain and
promote the Spiranthes diluvialis populations. There are many questions about this
species which will not be addressed in one year of study, therefore this plan is only
a preliminary attempt to understand some of the conditions which may promote
orchid growth and future management opportunities.
cc: Jim Crain and Downtown Staff
Operations Center Staff
Albert & Leo Hogan
Bill Jennings
Elaine Smith
Mark Gershman
Dr. Bill Weber, CU
Dr. Yan Unhardt, CU
Mike Figgs
Dale White
