Logan Wash Mine Annual Report <br />Permit No.: M-1977-424 <br />a. Reseazch Mine: As requested by the BLM, the Research Mine bump and Bench <br />were pulled back and regraded to form a more gentle slope and transitional area <br />across the bench and mine access road. This work was inspected by a BLM <br />representative and verbally approved as complete. However, final reclamation <br />will include pulling back the main access road that extends from the Logan Wash <br />Road to the Research Mine bench area. <br />b. Pond 1: Regrading maintenance of the evaporation pond access road and deck <br />area to improve Stormwater runoff and management. <br />c. Erosional Gullies: Backfilling of the upper portions of erosional gullies on the <br />Research Mine and Lower Mine Benches. <br />d. Runoff Channels: Construction of interim Stormwater runoff channels on the <br />Upper Bench and Lower Bench Access Roads, and the Research Mine and <br />Lower Mine Benches. <br />e. Storm Debris: Regrading of debris flow material at the toe of the Lower Bench <br />on the Lower Access Road. <br />Technical Revision No. 5 (TR No. 5) was submitted to DMG on March 11, 2005. TR No.S is a <br />Stormwater Control Plan for Logan Wash Mine. TR No. 5 was requested by DMG after their <br />inspection of September 1, 2004. <br />5.0 Maintenance Activities <br />Maintenance activities included periodic inspections of mine roads, portals, mine water drainage <br />systems associated with the retorts and general mine workings, and of general evaporation pond <br />operation, security, and leak detection system. Maintenance activities conducted at the mine and <br />Pond lare summarized in the following sections. <br />5.1 Mine Maintenance <br />During the reporting period, while site reclamation work was being conducted, GSHI inspected <br />the Logan Wash Mine site on a weekly basis during April through November. Inspection of the <br />mine site was typically restricted to the surface areas of the mine benches, roads, and portal <br />closures. Retort water levels and discharge rates were periodically checked at appropriate <br />monitoring points at the mine. Underground inspections ceased in the fall of 2003 after the <br />portals of the mine were sealed with earth plugs. No snow removal was conducted during the <br />2004-2005 winter. <br />5.2 Pond 1 Maintenance <br />Maintenance of Pond 1 included inspection of (1) discharge rates to the pond from the mine <br />retorts, (2) the leak detection vault, and (3) security fence and general conditions of the liner and <br />pond. The leak detection vault was dry during the reporting period. Monthly inspections were <br />conducted through November of 2004 and will resume in March 2005. As stated in Section 4.0, <br />pond liner repairs were conducted during the summer of 2005, and regrading of the road and <br />pond deck was conducted to improve Stormwater runoff management. <br />6.0 Anticipated Reclamation in the Year 2005 <br />With the exception of the Main Access Road (also referred to as the Upper Access Road), it is <br />anticipated that the remaining disturbed acreage at Logan Wash Mine will be reclaimed in 2005. <br />The Main Access Road is on BLM land.
