New Elk Mine
Indications of Potential Failure or Instability:
Surface and outslopes of the pile were inspected for visable signs of potential failure or
instability. None were observed.
Threat to Human Life or Property:
Failure could impact persons or equipment on or adjacent to the disposal area.
Potential Harm to Land, Air, and Water Resources:
Failure could impact the Purgatoire River.
Maintenance Required:
None required at this time. As pond sediment accumulates, it will need to be spread and
graded to ensure drying followed by compaction prior to placing additional lifts.
Supporting Documentation: (Compaction tests, surveys, photographs, field measurements).
As noted above, a rolling compaction test was conducted on August 2. The area was found to be
well compacted with a maximum deflection of only 2" noted on the operational surface of the
waste disposal area. No "soft areas" indicative of moist uncompacted material were encountered.
Inspector
Date Date
....
,..Br.~
,` ',~
~ 'l,l
~~,~, ~„~~~.,j' ~~
