• coal seams. The monitoring of these wells and piezometers was
reduced to monthly water level, and yearly field measurements on
D - 1, E - 1 and F - 1. The pH dropped on all three wells in
1984 and the conductivity dropped on E - 1.
The alluvial piizometers continued to show a seasonal water
level variation with low levels in mid winter and high levels in
the early summer. In general the water levels were lower in 1984
than 1983. An interesting note on A - S is that the Carbon Ditch
SP - D flows nearly continuously 25' away and the piezometer is
frequently dry. Quality measurements on these peizometers and wells
was reduced to an annual field measurement of A - 1, 10 and 11.
N
C+/ ~r
n~ The water levels in the refuse area showed high water levels'
~~~' ~ during the fall. The only active fill area during the year was
%~ around R - 1 and R - 2, neither of which showed much change. The
pH and conductivity remained close to the year before. The sampling
• change consisted of the full list quality_ being reduced to sem
annual sampling. -`
_/
The sampling of the sediment pond piezometers was increased
to a quarterly field measurement in addition to the monthly water
level. The average water level decreased on all 4 piezometers
from the 1983 levels. In the first pH and conductivity readings
taken it was interesting to note the range of readings in piezo-
meters 26' apart. The low pH and high conductivity of the refuse
pile did not seem to have an effect on these piezometers, the
closest piezometer, P - 3 had the highest pH and lowest conductivity.
Mine Water
Monitoring of mine inflows was reduced to yearly field and
flow measurements of all but UG - 6 which is monitored monthly for
field and quarterly for full list quality. The inflows from all
of the points sampled were lower in 1984 than 1983. The considerably
•
