~~
requirements of the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act.
The purpose of these inspections and subsequent certification is to ensure proper construction of
the refuse piles and to satisfy the requirements of Rule 4.10.2 of the Colorado Mined Land
Reclamation Boazd.
INSPECTION OF ACTIVE AREAS 2-3, 4 and 5
There are no apparent points of seepage, or indications of slope failure on the active piles.
The surface drainage facilities were adequately maintained and were working properly. No
subdrain system is required by our permit, as geotechnical investigations for the disposal site
revealed no ground water present. Some additional rip-rap was required in the undisturbed ditch
and at the pond inlet of RPS-a to stop some unexpected tilling. This rip-rap was included into the
permit. The sediment ponds for RP-2/3 and 4 aze scheduled to be cleaned this summer as
personnel permit. The mine has been completely idled since July 1, 1995 and will be working with
only very minimal personnel until approximately Nov. 1, 1995. Also noted were rodent holes
along the embankments ofRP-2/3 and 4 ponds. These too, are scheduled to be filled and repaired.
Permanent out slope remain az approximately 80% complete on the toe of sub-area 2-3 and
approximately 50% complete on the toe of sub-area 4. These slopes appeared stable. Pit 5-a still
consists mainly of independent piles waiting to be spread. The northern end of the pit is being
worked and a lift is being worked in that area The work in pit 5-a remains slow as we received
rain almost every day in May.
The mine has been idle, from a production standpoint, since June 12, 1995 due to a longwall
move.
