Permittee Name:
Permit No:
Operation Name:
Anniversary Date:
V~e• sr Building
M-77-7 29
Whkewater 500 Pit
09/22/95
Materials, Corp. ••
Page 2
Stage 2 on 6.19 ac t and in Stage B on 0.33 ac. ± as shown on Map 2
(green). The Plant Site in Stages W, Z and 2 is still in use (lite
yellow) . In addition, overburden was placed in Stage C for use in future
reclamation and pit run material was placed in Stage A for future use.
We still have 12.93 acres stripped ready for mining in Stage 2 (pink).
The river has continued to erode the bank in stages Y ( 300 ft ) and Z ( 600
ft.) this year (red). The extend of damage has not been as great and as
we explained in March, 1995 it is out of our hands because of the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Services objection to any work preformed in the
Gunnison River.
(2) Most of the reclamation is complete in Stage 1 at this time. we
completed sloping on the area colored lite blue in the east corner
of the lake area. The dewatering pumps have been removed and the
lake is beginning to refill. We purposely sloped the eastern parcel
shallower than that shown on the reclamation map to try and create
a wetland area in this area. In addition, approximately 1,050 ft of
road that ran along the south side of the site was relocated to its
final location adjacent to the lake (brown). The old road ROW was
graded , soiled and seeded this year (1,120 ft. ±). Corrugated
Metal Pipe was place in two drainages to reduce erosion of the slope
to the south of the site (noted as A and B on the map). we are
experiencing an unstable slope on the east side of the lake area
(1390 feet) as a result of water seeping from the river to the lake
area (red). This is beginning to stabilize and once the lake
refills we will try to correct the problem.
All the revegetation areas in Stages X, Y and 1 are resoiled ready
for seeding when the water returns to the lake. The remaining
topsoil pile in Stage X was spread this year on 0.46 acres and the
road in Stage Y (1,450 ft t) was placed in its final location
(brown). Because of the severe draught in 1994 all vegetation on
the site has taken a beating, therefore no revegetation efforts were
made or required this year. We have 1,000 YD~ of topsoil stored in
Stage 1 and 3,000 YD3 in Stage 2 (orange). We have approximately
800 YD~ of gravel stored near the topsoil in Stage 1 that will be
used to dress the roads (dark green). We also sloped a 750 foot
section of the river bank in Stage Z this year (purple).
(3) We will strip and mine an additional 5.79 acres t in Stage 2 this
year (blue). If more area is needed we will resume mining on the
area previously stripped (pink). Mining will continue on the 1.16
acres t partially mined in Stage D (blue) and may expand onto the
stripped area remaining in that stage (pink). We also plan to
resume mining in Stage B on 0.61 ac. t (blue).
(4) The amendment submitted in 1981 explained that until we stop
dewatering Stage 1 the chances of establishing vegetation in Stages
X, Y and the banks of Stage 1, are very slim because of the very
grid conditions in this area. Revegetation will take place as soon
as the water table has stabilized in Stage 1. Bank sloping and
grading will continue as in the past once mining is completed on a
shore line that will not be disturbed in the future. No other
reclamation is required at this time.
