i~ t:
Joseph J. Dudash
Re: 1999 Annual Reclamation Report
January 24, 2000
(1)(f) Acres Previously Revegetated:
Area
Lower Hubbard Creek
Bear Creek Fan Area
B-4 Degas Hole
B-5 Degas Hole
B-7 Degas Hole
B-8 Degas Hole
Total
Acres Year
2.6 acres 1996
3.0 acres 1996
0.04 acres 1990
0.25 acres 1990
0.70 acres 1987
0.16 acres 1987
6.75 acres
(2)(a) Weed Control:
Thistles and Russian Knapweed were controlled by a truck mounted spraying unit and spot
spraying individual plants and patches of plants with a portable spray system applying
Banvel and 2,4,D. Areas sprayed, as needed, included the disturbed areas from the Sanbom
Creek Mine portals to the West Yard, Substation Number 3, and the Bear and Hubbard
Creek Sites.
(2)(b) Rill and Gully Survey:
As part of the routine monthly inspections, the reclaimed areas are evaluated for
revegetation success and for the formation of rills and gullies deeper than nine inches. This
past year was the second year for the Lower Hubbard Creek and Bear Creek Fan Area sites.
Revegetation has started on both sites and there has not been significant formation of rills
and gullies that required repair and seeding
(2)(c) Reclamatioo Map:
Since the permit area for the Somerset and Sanbom Creek Mine is over 9,000 acres, and the
total reclamation for the 92.3 acres of permitted disturbance is approximately 6.75 acres,
any single base map would be meaningless, and any attempt to show disturbed areas,
reclaimed areas, what year final seeding occurred, when backfilling and grading was
completed, topsoil replacement depths, seed mix used, etc. would be confusing and difficult
to present, at best. Instead, any review of this Annual Reclamation Report should be done
with reference to the numerous individual area maps in the approved permit document
already in the Division files.
XBOw
