- Surface Water Site SW-52-3 (SSG3). This site monitors discharges from pre-SMCAA mining <br />areas befcre they enter Grassy Creak at a point just below Site SW-52-2. This site was • <br />ze-established in June 1997. Not enough data has been collected yet to detect any trends. <br />- Surface Water Site SW-52-2 (SSG2). This site is the furthest downstream surface water <br />site in the Lit [le Grassy and Grassy Creek drainages prior to exiting the permit area. <br />Therefore, it is the most significant monitoring site with respect to showing the <br />cumulative effects of mining in this area. Review of the hydrograph of monthly flow <br />measurements again shows the lowest peak flow in the past five years. Review of the TDS <br />plot indicates a nearly level trend. <br />On page 7-242 of the Seneca II pHC, predictions of TDS values at this site xere made. A <br />value of 1233 mg/1 was predicted in June, while a value of 1370 mg/1 xas observed. A <br />value of 2341 mg/1 xas predicted in September, while a value of 2080 mg/1 was observed. <br />It should be noted that the PHC predictions were based on long term average values. <br />Individual monthly TDS measurements may be affected by annual changes in climate, and by <br />' ~~- "' 'the [elative contribution: of'flow .values From Ponds 002 and 00 3. The long term TOS trend <br />for this site, as stated in the previous paragraph, in nearly level. • <br />Springs. <br />Spoil spring data may be found after the surface water data presented in Appendix D. <br />Spoil spzinq data provided are water quality data fox the year, historic flow <br />measurements, and a LOWESS plot of EC (electrical conductivity, corrected to 25° C, since <br />10/1/B 9) values. In addition, a flox hydrograph is provided for Spoil Spzing 1. <br />- Spoil Springs 1 and 2. Both these spoil springs are located above the NPDES 004 pond. <br />Spoil Spring 1 is a large spring that was further developed and fitted xi th a V-notch weir <br />by the USGS on September B, 1957. Reviex of the hydrograph fot Spoil Spring 1 again shows <br />the lowest peak flow in the past Five years. Its EC plot indicates a decreasing trend. <br />Spoil Spring 2 is a small spring creek on reclaimed land that flows adjacent to Spoil <br />Spring 1. Spoil Spring 2 exhibits an increasing EC trend. <br />- Spoil Springs 3, 4, 5, and 7. These springs all exist in the Wedge seam mining area in <br />the Little Grassy Creek basin. Spoil Spring 3 drains out of an old backf filled mine pi[, • <br />and exhibits a decreasing EC trend. Spoil Spring 4 is a spring creek adjacent to Spoil <br />IG <br />
