•
Introduction
The information assembled in this 1996 Anxlual Hydrology Aeport (AHR) includes data
collected from approved monitoring sites established at Seneca Coal Company's (SCCI Yoast
Mine (9tate Permit No. C•94-0821. Locations of monitoring sites discussed in this report
can be found by referring to Exhibit 7~1, Hydrology Moaitorimq Map, which may De found in
the Yoast Mine Permit Application Package (PAP1.
All references to 1996 (or to °this year') will be for Water Year 1996 (October 1, 1995
through September J0. 19961 unless otherwise noted. A11 tables referred to im the
following text can be found in Appendix A. Ia addi tioa, a table of contents for Appendix
A is given at the beginning of that appendix.
Field conductivity and pH meters were calibrated prior to each days use. The conductivity
meter is calibrated using a yotassium chloride solution with an electrical conductivity is
_ the 1000 to 3000 umhoe/cm range. The pH meter is calibrated using NBS traceable buffers
• with pe values of 7 and 10. Lab analyses have been Derformed by ACZ Laboratory is
Steamboat Sprimgs, Colorado since May 31, 1983. ACZ Laboratory performs all analyaae by
HPA of equivalent methods. Samples are delivered the day of collection to the lab is an
iced cooler.
SCC has instituted a new monitoring site numbering system for its new Paradoxr" water
quality data base. This nev system is detailed in Table A. For convenience sake, Chia
cable has Deea placed at the end of the Table of Contents Isee previous page).
The Yoast Mine permit went into effect oa August 8, 1995. No mining (as defined by
overburden removal) has occurred as of September 30, 1996; the only disturbance has been
the construction of a haul road and ens removal of topsoil. As a result, data in this ABR
ma}' still be considered as baseline data. Because of this, the discussion of data present
here wi-.1 ~e minimal. A more comclete discussion of data will be orovided ir, the 1997
AHF..
u
1
