West Elk Mine 2004 Annual Hydrology Report
41
hydrologic monitoring program. MCC is currently developing a new comprehensive hydrologic
monitoring program for the West Elk Mine that addresses these concerns.
The Project's current monitoring program is providing adequate monitoring data with the exception
of the flow measurements collected at the Upper and Lower Deep Creek and the Upper Dry Fork
stations. The Deep Creek stations need to have a direct means of measuring flow other than a
rating curve for the general channel geometry. Direct flow could be measured using a permanent
or portable flume or similaz device. The continuous flow measurement instruments (pressure
transducers and data loggers) need to be recalibrated to the specific flow measurement device. The
Upper Dry Fork monitoring site has been submerged for the past two years by a lake formed by
beaver activities. MCC has proposed plans for re-establishing the Upper Dry Fork Flume in the
summer of 2005.
r•s*r*

August 2005 HydroGeo, Inc.
