West Elk Mine 2004 Annual Hydrology Report 17 <br />• 3.2.4 Springs above the E Seam in the Dry Fork Drainage Basin <br />3.2.4.1 Sprinx J-4 <br />Spring J-4 is located in East Gulch East of Horse Gulch and is tributary to Dry Fork and Minnesota <br />Creek. It is south of the SE mine panels and north of the South Lease Tract panels. This spring <br />issues from alluvium, is seasonal, and is normally dry in late summer or autumn. <br />3.3 Ground Water Monitoring <br />There are 24 monitored wells in the WY 2004 monitoring program, 5 more wells than in WY 2003. <br />In September 2003, MCC installed five additional monitoring wells (upper Dry Fork alluvial, lower <br />Dry Fork Alluvial, SOM-3E, SOM-3B, and 03-11-1). Baseline data for these new wells are <br />presented in this report. <br />The ground water monitoring wells are divided into the fallowing 7 categories: <br />• Facility Area Wells and Alluvial Wells <br />• Permit Area Wells completed in the Barren Member above F Seam <br />• Permit Area Wells completed in the F Seam <br />• Permit Area Wells completed in the E Seam <br />• Permit Area Wells completed above the E Seam <br />• Permit Area Wells completed in the B Seam <br />• Study Area Wells completed in the F Seam <br />The locations of the ground water monitoring wells are shown on Map 2.
