This was accomplish by drilling
8 test holes and installing 30 hydraulically isolated piezometer
wells in 5 of the drill holes. Two general areas of interest were
identified for further study during the Phase I analysis of the
refuse pile. The first area represents a center section of the
pile near existing piezometer wells P-1 6 B2-2 and includes bore
holes on the first and second maintenance benches in this area.
The second area represents a perimeter section of the pile near
existing piezometer wells B1-1 & B2-4 and includes bore holes on
the first bench and just above the second bench. The eight drill
holes were advanced with a Mobile B-50 Drill Rig to depths of from
25 to 90 feet using 3.25-inch I.D. hollow stem auger flights, 5-
feet long. The holes were continuously sampled for visual logging
purposes where possible and samples were obtained from the
foundation alluvium material when encountered. Samples were
recovered from a 5-foot long, split barrel, continuous sampling
drill tool which was inserted inside the hollow stem auger and
advanced by the Rig with the auger bit. In areas where the
continuous sampling tool could not be advanced, samples were
obtained from 2-foot long split spoon drive tests, with the spoon
being advanced by a series of 140-pound hammer blows. Holes
identified for installation of piezometer wells were typically
advanced 15-feet below the bottom of the pile into the alluvium
foundation material. The following table presents location
information for each of the drill holes advanced during the present
investigation, drill hole locations are graphically shown on Plate
11 of the Appendix:
Drill Hole Locations
Hole Northing Fasting Grnd E1.
