3.2.5 2002 and 2003 RECLAMATION AREAS
• In 2002, a 0.66 acre azea (Area 23) east of the southern segment of B Pit was seeded to the
perennial seed mix. This azea bounds the active haul road to B Pit and reclaimed and
revegetated azeas. Second year growth revealed annual growth as well as representation by
perennial graminoids.
An area comprising 8.1 acres (Area 29) was seeded to the permanent reclamation mix in 2003
immediately south of the B Pit. This growing season, plant composition was dominated by
annual forbs with some perennial graminoid clumps present adjacent to the annuals.
•
L J
3.3 COMPARISON OF RECLAIlViTD AND REFERENCE AREAS
Monitoring of the revegetated azeas allows for the identification of vegetation community
development trends during the extended liability period. This evaluation also assists in
decisions regazding yeazly grazing, husbandry practices, interseeding, fertilizing, and weed
management. Comparison of the reclaimed area values for vegetation cover, herbaceous
production, and species composition with the values from the reference azea or standazd,
indicates whether revegetation has been successful, or whether additional measures need to be
initiated to enhance vegetation community development. The tables below allow the
comparison of the pazameter values with the standazd to be achieved, either from the
reference area in the case of vegetation cover and herbaceous production, or the established
standazd for species composition.
Total Vegetation Cover (2004)
Reference 1995 Rec.
Area Areas
Xbar 34.93 39.47
S 5.18 5.61
N 15 19
Nmin 7 6
1997 Rec
Areas
1998 Areas 1999 Rec
Areas
40.53 46.40 32.80
6.12 9.13 9.62
15 10 10
7 13 29
Based on the results of the 2004 quantitative sampling, all of the reclamation azeas
quantitatively sampled this year exceeded the final revegetation success criterion for
vegetation cover (90% of the Osgood sand reference azea mean of total vegetation cover).
Total Herbaceous Production (2004)
Reference
Area 1995 Rec
Areas 1997 Rec.
Areas 1998 Areas 1999 Rec
Xb 56
96 118
38 108
75 172.52 110
05
ar . . . .
S 22.27 52.19 24.53 11025 77.7q
N 15 19 IS 15 15
Nmin 47 60 16 127 155
Coors Energy Company Page 15
2004 Revegetation Monitoring Report
