As outlined in the
Division's November 2, 1993 letter, the piezometers were
constructed such that the bottom cap is at or near the
contact of the embankment fill material and the tailings
with a 10' screen interval in the fill material directly
above the cap. The embankment piezometers will be monitored
monthly.
Five in-tailings piezometers were also installed. These
piezometers are identified as P16-P20. The coordinates for
the in-tailings piezometers are:
P16 N 205,295
E 2,037,825

-

P17 N 205,480
E 2,037,750
P18 N 205,671
E 2,037,706
P19 N 205,762
E 2,037,691
P20 N 206,096
E 2,037,580
The nivision provided BMRI with a schematic of in-tailings
piezometers which was prepared by Water, Waste, and Land.
BMRI followed the design provided by the Division for the
installation of the in-tailings piezometers,
As outlined in the Division's January 6, 1994 memo to file,
the access to the in-tailings piezometers for the purpo$e of
bailing and monitoring will be dependent upon the
depositional sequencing. As stated by the Division,
quarterly readings - flexible in that monitoring should be
performed at least 4 times per annum on dates as equally
spaced as possible depending on accessibility - will be
gollected and recorded.
' BMRI continues to be concerned about the quality and
interpretation of data obtained from the in-tailings
piezometers. Obviously, as tailings are deposited around
the screened interval of the standpipe, water will be
' collected in the piezometer. once the screened interval is
buried by tailings, the piezometers will likely collect

(5 PJ005
1
