Page 2.
Cut 1 Top soil from Cut 6 has been spread in the voids left for roads
on the backfill in this cut. With the exception of the large
topsoil stockpile on the north end this area will be included
in a permit application to expand the sludge disposal area.
Cut 2 The seeding on the east side of this Cut is doing well, essent-
ially the best results to date. Sand is no longer quarried here
but the plant refuse dump is still active. Approximately 20,000
tons of topsoil from Cut 6 have been stored just east of the refuse
dump in the bonded area.
Cut 3 Backfilling of this cut is complete until mining of Cut 7 commences.
As on Cut 1, topsoil from Cut 6 has been spread over the backfilled
areas and it will also be included in the new sludge permit.
Cut 4 Sand is still being removed from this Cut but mining will cease
within the next year. Backfilling of this Cut with overburden
from Cut 6 has commenced. The dust disposal activity will be
moved to the sand pit when it becomes inactive.
Cut 5 Overburden removal has temporarily ceased in this Cut in favor of
the lower stripping ratio of Cut 6. The excavation was done in
such a manner that the remaining overburden can be removed with
Cut 7. Limestone for the plant is being mined from this Cut. A
sandstone quarry will be developed here also.
Cut 6 All the topsoil has been removed. A haul road to the overburden
dump in Cut 4 is complete and drilling has commenced in the gray
shale portion of the Smokey Hill formation.
2. Location and Number of Acres Reclaimed During the Year.
2.75 acres north of Cut #2 have been judged as reclaimed, and bonding has
been removed.
3. Location and Number of Acres in Various stages of Reclamation
Approximately 40 acres in Cuts 1, 2, and 3 have been prepared by having
topsoil, sludge or both added.
4. Species of Vegetation Planted, the Location and Dates of Planting
No new seeding has been done. The intended seed mixture for future plant-
ing is as follows:
Crested Wheatgrass, Fairway Blue Grammy
Side Oats Grama, Vaugn Western Wheatgrass
Streambank Wheatgrass, Sodar Four Wing Saltbush
Indian Ricegrass
