..

CASTLE CONCRETE COMPANY'S
MINED LAND RECLAMATION
1988-89 ANNUAL REPORT FOR: PIKEVIEW QIIARRY
PERMIT NUMBER: M-77-211
DATE OF INSPECTION FOR DATA IN REPORT: MAY 1989.
SUMMARY•
About 15 acres of land was affected with mining itself and
an additional about 50 TO 55 acres for other activities.
Tract AC was largely unaffected, while most of the mining
occurred in Tract AB. About 26 to 27 acres are now under
reclamation. A flat to depressed aggregate market has
seriously reduced the production rate at the quarry and
expansion of mining has slowed considerably.
RULE 2. 1 1 LOCATION AND NUMBER OF ACRES AFFECTED DURING THAT YEAR.
The enclosed annual report map shows the various areas of affected
land during the last year as well as the areas which were placed or are
currently under reclamation. Mining occurred in about a 15 acre area
all contained in Tract AB. With the exception of the mining access road
and topsoil stockpile, no land was affected in Tract AC. The land
between the stockpiles near the rip rap plant and the mining access road
was generally unaffected. Furthermore, the west end of Tract AA was
unaffected. Essentially all other land shown on the permit map was
affected by some activity.
This represents few changes from last year. This lack of change
was due mostly to the depressed aggregate market. The quarry was kept
open throughout the winter this year (it was closed for everything
except sales from existing stockpiles during the winter of the previous
permit year). However, rock sales remained depressed due to the low
demand caused by the weak economy and lack of construction. It was
better than the previous year, however, but not a great deal better.
RDLE 2. 1 2 LOCATIONS AND NUMBER OF ACRES RECLAIMED FOR THAT YEAR.
Reclamation proceeded on a limited scale. With the lack of new
affected land and with the few changes which occurred in the existing
operation, there was little additional land available for reclamation.
It did allow an opportunity to catch up on some needed stabilization and
reclamation activities which, due to limited time the previous year,
could not be implemented.
Page 1 of 4 1989 PIKEVIEW QUARRY ANNUAL REPORT
