Groundwater
Table 6 shows the results of groundwater sampling during 1989; as
well as a comparison to the baseline year 1986. As can be
expected for such a dry year, water levels were lower than the
relatively wet year of 1986. As has been normal for the preceding
years the quality of groundwater has been highly variable.
Probable Hydrologic Consequences
The McClane Canyon Mine seems to be dewatering a local perched
aquifer whose extent is not known. This aquifer- has little if any
direct communication with the alluvial sediments near McClane
Canyon. Salt Creek will use some of the water generated at the
mine but compared to the total available water in the East Salt
Creek regime the effect will be insignificant . Salt Creek will
probably be importing water for surface dust suppression which
will add to the total water in the East Salt Creek regime .
Additionally, since there are no known water rights adjudicated
for this aquifer , there is little chance that water- interests are
being injured.
If there are questions or if I can be of further assistance please
contact me.
Sincerely,
John M. Walters
Manager of Mine Services
