• values during a record from 4/83 to 10192. The range for sulfate was 64 to 731. The
range for TDS was 244 to 1,900. The 1996 values for sulfate and TDS fall within the
minimum and maximum values documented in the 1992 AHR.
OVWM GROUNDWATER MONITORING WELLS
Well OVWM (see Map No. 4-I) was monitored semi-annually for water levels
only to assess stability of the West mine fill constructed over East Roatcap Creek. Well
OVWM showed typical water level fluctuations during 1996 within the normal range
established for this site. (See Tab 5 Figure 5).
NORTH FORK ALLUVIUM GROUNDWATER MONITORING WELLS
Three (3) wells, MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3 (see Map No. 8-3) are completed in the
North Fork Gunnison alluvium. During 1996 the wells were monitored monthly for
water levels and showed typical seasonal fluctuations within previously established
ranges (see Tab 5 Figures 6, 7, & 8). MW-1 and MW-3 were monitored quarterly for
. quality during 1996 to monitor potential groundwater effects stemming from the coal
stockpile and loadout facilities in the North Fork Valley. Well MW-1 is east of the
loadout in an area that should be outside or above the area of influence of the coal
stockpile and loadout facilities. Well MW-3 is southwest of the coal stockpile area in a
location that should see the full impact of any potential grotmdwater degradation. The
TDS level in the wells shows whether the groundwater in the area has been degraded. )n
1993, the TDS in wells MW-1 and MW-3 were 388 and 380 mg/I respectively. These
values are considered baseline values. Well MW-1 had a TDS levels of 1300 mg/1 in the
fu•st quarter, 401 mg/1 in the second quarter and 650 mg/l in the fourth quarters of 1996.
The third quarter TDS value in MW-1 were less the 380 mg/I. Well MW-3 had TDS
values of less than 380 for all monitoring events. This data would show that the stockpile
and loadout aze not degrading the water in the alluvium.
EAST ROATCAP CREEK COLLUViUM GROUNDWATER MONITORING
WELLS
Shallow groundwater monitoring wells' SM-5, SM-6, SM-7, SM-10 and SM-11
(see Map No. 4-1) is in the East Roatcap Creek drainage. The wells were monitored for
• water quality parameters, water levels, and field parameters to detect impacts associated
Page -3-
