Monitoring. Revegetation monitoring of permanently revege[ated areas was conducted during
• the summer of 1993 by ESCO Associates, Inc. Monitoring areas included two, four, and seven
year old reclamation, the grazed 4adge Pasture area, a 1991 addition [o this pasture, the
newly established PECOCO pasture, and two native reference areas . The 1993 annual
revegetation monitoring report is included with this submittal as a separate document
(ESLO, 1994),
Grazing. Long yearlings were run in the PECOLO pasture area during the period of June 13
through July 26, 1993. The pasture location and configuration are shown on Exhibit 93.5.
On June 13, 75 yearlings were turned into the pasture, followed by 100 on June 14 and 10 on
July 13, for a total of 185 animals. The grazing period was 45 days. Assuming a long
yearling unit requires 648 pounds of forage per long yearling month (LYM), a total of
171,720 pounds of forage were consumed (648 pounds of forage per LYM x 265 LYM). The 1993
forage production in the PECOCO pasture determined from 1993 vegetation monitoring samples
was estimated at 701,995 pounds (217 acres x average production of 3235 pounds per acre).
The PE COCO pasture includes 134 acres of reclaimed lands and 18 acres of mountain brush and
65 acres of sagebrush native rangeland available for grazing. The estimated forage
utilization in the PE LOCO pasture for 1993 is 25 percent (171,720 pounds consumed/701,995
• pounds available). the actual total forage utilization is higher since a number of deer
and elk graze in this pasture throughout [he year. However, the numbers of big game
grazing the PECOCO pasture are difficult to document and thus a utilization estimate for
these species is not available.
Livestock grazing occurred from July 27 through September 14, 1993 in the Nadge Pasture
area of the Seneca II Mine. The pasture location and configuration is shown on Exhibit
93.5. A total of 185 long Yearlings were graced during the 50-day period. Assuming each
long yearling requires bGB pounds of forage per long yearling month (LYM), a total of
199,584 pounds of forage were consumed (648 pounds of forage per LYM x 308 LYM). The 1993
forage production in the wadge Pasture as determined from 1993 revegetation monitoring was
estimated to be 984,200 pounds (296 acres x 3325 pounds per acre). The 1993 estimated
forage utilization by livestock in the cadge pasture is 20 percent (109,584 pounds of
forage consumed/984,200 pounds of available forage). As with [he PECOCO pasture, the
actual forage utilization ~n [he wadge pasture is higher than estimated it deer and elk
utilization is considered. Actual deer and elk numbers have not been estimated because of
the difficulty in documenting the number of big game using the pasture.
`/ '1
u
12
