NCEC-1988 Hydrology Rpt -3- July, 1989
2.0 HYDROLOGIC MONITORING
2.1 Data Collection
Field and laboratory data were collected during the first quarter
of 1988 from the following monitoring sites, OW -11, OW -14; OW -15,
OW -17, OW -18, and CR -2. This data is presented in the data table
in addition to the previously collected information from these and
all other monitoring sites.
Since the tunnels have remained sealed since 1986 and there has
not been any activity on the site during 1987 and 1988, it is not
likely that there have been any impacts to the groundwater system
due to the mine facility. NCEC recognizes that the data collected
during 1988 does not meet the specified sampling intervals.
However, as stated previously, monetary constraints prevented this
monitoring during most of 1988.
Under the circumstances, NCEC suggests that since the collected
data is consistent with site groundwater conditions as described
in the permit application and recorded in the extensive data -base,
that the first and second quarter sampling be allowed to stand for
conditions during 1988. As is described in Section 2.3, NCEC has
a clear idea of how the monitoring system should be improved and
operated. It is NCEC's intention that prior to restarting
activities at the site, full-scale monitoring will be resumed in
order to establish that the original baseline conditions
established prior to mining are indeed still valid.
