During the past
year, Bear Coal Company drilled an exploration hole in the immediate vicinity of Degas
Hole B-5, which is adjacent to the Bear Creek road. The degas hole was drilled to the
elevation of the B-Seam by U.S. Steel Corporation as part of the abandoned Somerset Mine.
The exploration hole was drilled to the elevation of the E-Seam as part of an evaluation by
Bear Coal Company for a possible new mine. Degas Hole B-6 (0.31 acres) continues to be
used as a monitoring well into the abandoned Somerset Mine.
''Degas Holes B-7 (0.70 acres) & B-8 (0.16 acres) were reclaimed in 1987.
