1
' Monitor holes 36-2L and 35-4L have declined over the reporting period. Monitor hole 4-20L
continued to show a decline until the last reading of this monitoring period when it showed a

water level rise of almost two feet.
The response of 'lower sandstone facies" monitoring holes 2-17L, 2-7L and TW2-7L to mining
and leaking exploration holes indicates the area of influence in the 'lower sandstone facies' is
larger than That in either the 'upper sandstone facies' or the °siltstone-coal facies'. However,
the response of these monitoring holes to low flows of about 1 gpm in the leaking exploration
' holes further indicates the low water flow characteristics of the °lower sandstone facies'.
' From the baseline data, all three zones should be classified as 'aquitards' in that they will yield
water but at very slow rates. Mining in fhe D Seam so far has encountered only small flows of
water and the mine is essentially dry. Water leaking out of caved areas is routed to the sump
' at the end of Sixth East. Anew borehole was drilled to this sump and the pump was removed
from the old borehole and installed in the new one. From there it is pumped to the surface
' through a borehole and discharged. This borehole is designed as sump dewatering hole 2 or
SDH-2.
' 2.2.2.4 Bedrock Water Quality Water sampling and analysis are no longer required from the
bedrock monitoring holes. However, prior to entering Federal leases C-8424 and C-8425, one
' water quality sample will be collected and analyzed from each of the monitoring holes in those
two leases.
' The Deserado Mine First Annual Hydrology Report (December 1985) contains baseline water
quality data for the bedrock zones.
' 2.2.2.5 Mlne Water Balance Table 2-3 shows the water balance for the Deserado Mine. A
' description of how these numbers are arrived at follows.
1
1

1
1
11
1
