PECOCO Pasture Reclaimed Area
(Photographs 13-16)
COVER
(Table 10)
Introduced perennial cool season grasses averaged 35.5 percent of total vegetation cover in
2004. This total was due primarily to intermediate wheatgrass, which composed over 9/10"s of
the lifeform total. Twenty-lwo percent of total vegetation cover was by native perennial cool
season grasses. Half of this total was by western wheatgrass. Introduced annual and biennial
forbs occupied 20 percent of total vegetation cover. Yellow sweetclover and white sweetclover
(Melilotus alba) were the dominants within this lifeform. Notably, bull thistle, houndstongue, and
Canada thistle were also observed in this area.
Total vegetation cover was 38.3 percent. Standing dead, litter, bare soil, and rock averaged
14.2%, 20.7%, 22.5%, and 4.3% of total cover, respectively. Species density was 21 species per
100 sq.m.
PRODUCTION
(Table 11)
PECOCO Pasture averaged 1,945 pounds of herbaceous production per acre in 2004. Of this,
37.3 pounds per acre were due to alfalfa.
WOODY PLANT DENSITY
(Table 12)
In 2004, there were 505.7 stems per acre of woody plant observed in Wadge Pasture. 307.6
stems per acre were snowberry and 137.6 stems per acre were big sagebrush. Five other
species were present in low densities.
Wadge Pasture Reclaimed Area
(Photographs 17-20)
COVER
(Table 13)
Seventy percent of total vegetation cover was composed of introduced perennial cool season
grasses in 2004. Three-quarters of this total was attributable to intermediate wheatgrass; the
balance comprised of smooth brome and hard sheep fescue (Festuca ovina). Introduced
perennial forbs accounted for 11 percent of total vegetation cover. Three-fifths was due to cover
9
