n
W
Additional Page
1999 Annual Report
Menzer Quarry
M-76-009-HR
Centennial Materials
Anniversary Date: December 31
Overview of Permit Year: During the 1999 operating year there was a great deal of activity at this site.
This was primarily due to the very active construction market [hroughout the Colorado Springs area.
However, in spite of all the mining done, the quarry changed little. This was because of the large
quantity of material that was available within areas that had previously been prepared for mining. Only
one area on the north side of the affected land was additionally opened, but little attual mining occurred
there. This expansion of the disturbed area is in preparation for initiation of the second part of the
initial stage which will eventually lead to a major expansion of the quarry floor.
The large storms during late April and early May did little damage to the quarry itself, as was the
case in the past. However, the access road, once again, was closed by the devastating floods that hit all of
southeastern Colorado during that period. Portions of the road had to be rebuilt to regain access to the
quarry.
Annual Report Maps: The enclosed color map shows the primary areas of disturbance and the type of
disturbance occurring in each area. As the mining expanded northward, the previously revegetated area
was largely removed. It is likely, this excellent work will be completely gone during the next year.
Affected Lands: The amount of affected land has increased primarily due to the stripping on the north
side of the initial stage.
Revegetation: The site is stable and is not subject to erosion. This became most evident as a result of
the April/May flooding when Turkey Creek turned into a river, but little material left the quarry even
though incredible amounts of precipitation impacted the site for several consecutive da}'s.
Expected Activity (2000): The mining zone (orange on the map) will expand some northward into the
stripped area (brown). It is also possible the southern portion of the mining zone will e:tpand laterally
(east and/or west) into stripped and prepared ]and. The former is more likely than the latter because the
priority at this point is on expanding the quarry floor rather than expanding the mined area east and
west along the south boundary.
Bonding: This operation is covered by a self bond. Enclosed is a copy of the Report oz Audit of
Divisional Balance Sheet for Schmidt Construction. Centennial Materials and Schmidt construction are
financially related and are both subsidiaries of Edw. C. Levy Co.
Centennial Materials 1999 Annual Report M-76-009-HR Menzer Quarry Page 1 of 1
