Mine Waste Rock Disposal
Subsequent to the submittal of the 1997 AHR Report CEC has also received
approval from CDPHE, from Weld County, and from CDMG (Minor
Revision #34), to dispose of mine waste rock at the Keenesburg Mine site.
Between November 29'~ and December 15~`, 1999, a total of 1,828 tons of
mine waste rock were transported from an "orphaned" mine site (in Virginia
Canyon) near Idaho Springs, Colorado, and deposited in a single 4t foot
layer, across a horizontal expanse covering 0.26 acres within B-Pit. The mine
waste rock is being treated in a manner which will isolate it within layers of
ash in the existing disposal pit (B-Pit) to protect against the possibility of
future contamination. By the close of 1999, the covering ash layer had almost
completely advanced over the waste rock with full cover to be achieved in
early 2000.
When added to the mine waste rock previously buried in B-Pit during 1998,
this brings the total quantity disposed at the site to 12,467 tons. The location
and horizontal extent of this material has been identified on the "Existing
Surface Features and Utilities Map".

AItR-1999 -83- Stipulation #24-25
