C~
SURFACE WATER
Goodspring Creek
Data analysis for the period 1982 through 1992 at both
the Upper Goodspring sample location, which represents
undisturbed conditions upstream of mining, and the Lower
Goodspring sample location, which represents disturbed
conditions down gradient of the mining, indicate no
significant differences in water quality between locations.
There continues to be anomalies in flow from one location to
the other that are attributed to beaver activity between the
sites. The beaver activity continues to back water up into
the Upper Goodspring sample location flume and beaver activity
has encroached upon the Lower Goodspring flume also. Due to
this condition, no flow measurements for the Upper Goodspring
location are presented this year. Attempts have been made to
remove the dams but with little long term success. Beaver
activity continues to be an important element of the
Goodspring Creek ecosystem and we see no reason, at the
present, to change this trend.
With the expansion of mining activities to the south in
Section 16, Colowyo established a new upstream undisturbed
surface water monitoring site called New Upper Goodspring
Creek located below the confluence of the West Fork and Main
Fork of Goodspring Creek. Data Analysis at this site for the
last quarter of 1992 shows good water quality indicative of
undisturbed conditions. Beginning in 1993, the New Upper
2
