2992, 2993, 1994 AHR Review
Bear Coal Company
April 19, 1995
Page 4
Report Content Requirements
There are a number of items which are required by stipulations 6
and 32 to be included in the AHR. Based on those requirements BCC
should provide the following information, which is missing in the
1993 AHR:
1. An assessment of hydrologic impacts of mining during the year.
Specifically, why did the quality in the alluvial wells
improve for the 1993 sample?
2. An assessment of projected hydrologic impacts of mining during
the next year.
3. The amount of water imported to the mine. BCC has a water
right to withdraw 7 acre-feet of water from the North Fork of
the Gunnison River.
Based on the same requirements BCC should also provide the
following information, which is missing in the 1994 AHR:
1. An assessment of hydrologic impacts of mining during the year.
Specifically, why does there continue to be no flow in the
lower french drain and why is there no flow at spring CR-12?
A limited assessment was provided for ground water but no
assessment was provided for surface water.
2. An assessment of projected hydrologic impacts of mining during
the next year.
3. The amount of water imported to the mine. BCC has a water
right to withdraw 7 acre-feet of water from the North Fork of
the Gunnison River.
General Recommendations and Questions
1. BCC should update the map that is provided with the 1993 AHR
to show all monitoring locations. The french drains and the
outfall of the sediment pond are not shown on this map. In
addition, the 1994 AHR requires monitoring of three springs
which should also be referenced on the map. A map was not
provided with the 1994 AHR. The updated map should be
provided to the Division to include in the 1994 AHR.
2. The Probable Hydrologic Consequences (PHC) predicts that BCC
may degrade and/or deplete the water quality and quantity in
the North Fork. How can this determination be made if BCC
does not monitor the North Fork? BCC should propose an
