MarrMine-7002 Reclamation Report
© ]anuary 17, 2003
Page 3
These areas were reseeded to the permanent seed mixture during 2001 and additional intexseeding
was completed in 2002.
In 2002, EFCI completed a program to identify, plug, seal, and reclaim a number of old
exploration boreholes and alluvial monitoring wells, primarily in the Kerr North Area north of the
County Road. Work was completed in late October 2002.
8.0 TOPSOIL STOCKPILES
There are approximately 3.3 acres of topsoil stockpiles remaining at the Mine Area. No material
removal or reclamation was conducted in these areas in 2002.
9.0 SURFACE FACILITIES
As shown on the 2002 Reclamation Map, the remaining permanent facilities (roads, buildings, and
ponds) in the Mine Area cover approximately 35 acres. Permanent facilities in the Loadout Area
cover approximately 6 acres.
10.0 LOADOUT AREA
Final reclamation activities were completed for the Loadout Area (approximately 5 acres) during
1999. The Loadout Area was re-seeded in October 2000 and good growth was evident during the
bond release inspection in May 2001.
11.0 GRAZING
EFCI had planned to conduct grazing activities during 2002, however due to drought conditions,
EFCI and the DMG determined that grazing might not be beneficial and EFCI did not proceed
with planned grazing.
12.0 REVEGETATION SUCCESS EVALUATION
Revegetation success sampling was completed in 1999 on the pre-1986, 1995, and 1996 reclaimed
areas. The results of this sampling were contained in a report prepared by ESCO Associates Inc.
dated February 2000. This report was forwarded to the DMG. This evaluation included cover,
annual production, shrub density and species diversity/composition. Based on the sampling
results, revegetation in the 1995 and 1996 xedamation areas satisfies the applicable revegetation
success standards. Revegetation in the pre-1986 reclaimed area satisfies the applicable revegetation
success standards for annual production and species diversity/composition but not for cover or
shrub density. Kerr will continue managed grazing operations on reclaimed areas and anticipates
that the combination of grazing, progressive vegetative establishment from the initial revegetated
community, and natural reinvasion will enhance cover and shrub density. Kerr will continue to
monitor revegetation success and will conduct follow-up revegetation success sampling and
evaluation to assess the effectiveness oEprogressive vegetative reestablishment.
13.0 BOND RELEASE
An application for partial bond release (Phase I fox Loadout Axea and Phase II for 720 Pit and Pit
1 Areas) was filed with the DMG in August 2000. A bond release inspection of the release areas
was held on May 22, 2001 and the DMG subsequently approved the application for partial bond
u~u-rqw..e~xmei,.,m,.,e,,.~ex,e.,.,<ovau
r/r~/oilq.
