MINE WATER <br />. Mine inflows studies were done near the end of September 1989. <br /> The results of these studies are tabulated in Tables M89-1 and <br /> M89-2. The location of the sampling points is shown on the 1989 <br /> Mine Inflows Map. <br /> As noted in the Surface Water section of the report, pumping was <br /> resumed at the Roadside Mine during this year. Discharge from <br /> 002, which included the total mine inflows, was pumped from a <br /> location near 7 on the Mine Inflows Map. During the first four <br /> months of pumping the water level was being lowered, therefore <br /> the pumping rate shown on Table 589-9 for that period was greater <br /> than the total inflows. During May the discharge was less than <br /> the inflows and the water level rose. The mass average pH and <br /> conductivity of the mine inflows in September 1989 was 8.6 and <br /> 1004 umhos/cm respectively and the average pH and conductivity of <br /> the 002 discharge was 7.7 and 2783. This difference may indicate <br /> the effect of water setting in the abandoned portions of the <br /> mine. The biggest surprise in the monitoring results of 002 <br /> discharge was the temperature, around 80 degrees F. <br /> Inflows from the Roadside locations 3 and 5 were diverted to the <br /> East Mains Sump from April through September for pumping. Water <br /> not used for coal mining and cleaning or dust control is <br /> discharged to the River. Table S89-9 shows only the amount <br /> discharged. The quality of the 001 discharge was similar to the <br />• calculated mass average of locations 3 and 5, both had a pH of _ <br /> 8.6 and the average conductivity of the discharge was 806 <br /> umhos/cm vs 829 for the mass average. <br /> The mass average of all the Roadside inflows showed a slight <br /> decrease compared to the 1988 study, 1004 vs 1021 umhos/cm. The <br /> individual flows were up and down from last year, but the total <br /> was 3 .8 gpm less. <br /> Discharge from the Cameo No. 1 Mine continued throughout the <br /> year. Data pages SF-4 and SF-5 give the results of monitoring <br /> during the year and table S89-10 shows the average monthly <br /> discharges. The overall average flow rate is close to the actual <br /> inflows, but in individual months varied due to an irregular <br /> schedule of draining the sealed area at location 8. Using the <br /> mine inflow study flow rates and conductivity a mass average <br /> conductivity of 2545 umhos/cm was calculated. This value <br /> compares well with the average 004 discharge conductivity of 2521 <br /> umhos/cm. <br /> CONSUMPTIVE USE <br /> Consumptive water use during 1989 included domestic, mine, and <br /> irrigation water usage. Table C89-1 shows the domestic usage <br /> by meter. Meter 1 supplies the buildings near the Roadside <br /> • entrance gate. Meter 2 supplies the Roadside Office, bathhouse <br /> and the preparation plant. Meter 3 supplies the Cameo <br />
