The following is a list of average monthly flows during the most
critical irrigation months, July - October:
SWGS-01
Water Year October July August September
1985 3 .64 - - -
1986 - 6. 10 - -
1987 - 2.70 2.31 1.27
1988 1.90 1.71 1.06 1.68
1989 1.80 0.88 0.80 <0.56
SWGS-02
Water Year October July August September
1985 0.81 0.65 1.00 0.48
1986 0.74 1.02 0.46 0.53
1987 0.74 1.02 0.57 0.48
1988 0.53 0.44 0.32 0.39
1989 0.38 <0.26 <0.26 <0.26
SWGS-03
Water Year October July August September
1985 1.15 - - 0.28
1986 - 2. 65 0.58 -
1987 - 0.75 0.34 0.20
• 1988 0.40 0.92 0.31 0.37
1989 <0. 16 <0.26 <0. 17 <0. 15 -
indicates months when insufficient information was
available.
Correlation has never been good between the lower flume, SWGS-01,
and the upper flumes, SWGS-02 8 03. With the flows below the
recording limits so much of the summer, correlation is even more
difficult. Cottonwood Creek was dry most of the summer.
There was no flow from any of the sediment ponds this year and
therefore no flow from COPS discharge points 005-014. Discharge
point 003 is a discharge point from the old Cameo Mine and hasn't
been used since 1979.
From October to January of this hydrologic year all inflows in
the Roadside Mine were drained to abandoned portions of the mine.
The water level reached active areas of the mine in December 1988
and pumping from 002 was started on January 6, 1989. Production
started near the water level and continued updip allowing more
area to be flooded. Pumping from 002 was discontinued May 8,
1989, when production started. Pumping from 001 was resumed
March 15, 1989, in preparation for resumption of mining. A pump
located in the East Mains Sump is used to pressure mine water
• lines and to fill the surface water tank. Water not used for
coal mining and cleaning or dust control is discharged from the
