Mr. Richard Mills - 3 - March 27, 1986
3) A table compiling specific information on monitoring sites (site
location description, monitoring objectives, completion data or permit
references to completion data on wells) would facilitate interpretation
of the data.
4) A tabulation of all monitoring data collected. We are interested
in observing trends over time and in comparing current data with
baseline. It would be helpful if the specific water quality data could
be compiled with previous data as the field parameters were presented
in the 1985 AHR. Additionally we would be interested in some massaging
of the data, as presented in the Empire AHR: annual compilations of the
average, standard deviation and range for each parameter at each site.
Cumulative averages of multiple years' data is inappropriate, however,
as the Division is interested in trends.
5) The calculation and reporting of mass balance on each sample which
has major cations and anions analyzed would improve our evaluation of
your quality control, as mentioned earlier.
6) Please utilize the "Remarks" column on the field parameters
tabulations to comment on pertinent weather and hydrologic conditions
so we can distinguish between storm events and ambient high flow
conditions.
7) Graphical analyses of the data will expedite the interpretation of
the hydrology. We would like to see:
a) flydrographs of streamflow and ground water well depth data;
b) Cumulative graphs (baseline to present) of total iron, TDS and
TSS at all surface water sites as well as cumulative graphing of
all parameters which are at levels 75 percent of receiving stream
standards or applicable irrigation standards; and,
e) Piezometric-style mapping is of salt plume concentrations in
aquifers.
We hope that the recommendations presented herein will improve the quality of
CYCC's monitoring program and future AHR's. If you have any questions, do not
hesitate to call.
Sincerely,
Catherine W. Begej
Reclamation Specialist
CWB/pjh
cc: Dan Mathews
8682E
