;• Bowie Resources Limited
Bowie No. 1 Mine
1997 Annual Hydrology Report
Surface Water Mouitoriug Stations -SPRINGS
East Roatcap Creek
Three springs were monitored in the East Roatcap Creek drainage (refer to Table 1 and Map
No. 4-1) during 1997. The springs were not accessible during the first quarter monitoring
because of the lingering snow-pack. Spring 30 had measurable flow in May, September and
November. Water quality parameters taken in May were consistent with previous sampling at
this site. Spring 30 was encompassed by the angle-of--draw of Panel Y during May of 1993.
Spring 10-10 had no measurable flow in May, September and November therefore, no water
quality pazameters were taken. Spring 10-10 was encompassed by the angle-of--draw ofPanel Y
during September 1993 and retreat mining was done under it in 1994. Subsidence impacts were
not apparent at either of these locations during 1997.
West Roatcap Creek
Four springs were monitored in the West Roatcap Creek drainage (refer to Table 1 and Map
No. 4-1) during 1997. The springs were not accessible during the first quarter monitoring
because of lingering snow-pack. Spring 31 was monitored on monthly basis and exhibited
consistent flows throughout the yeaz with the flow tapering off in the fall Water quality
• parameters were consistent with ranges previously established for this site. No mining occurred
within the watershed for this spring during 1997 and no mining impacts were evident. Spring 32
was monitored monthly when it was accessible. Spring 32 exhrbited consistent flow throughout
the year with the flow tapering off in the fall and winter. Water quality parameters were
consistent with last yeazs sampling. Spring 10-13 was monitored quarterly. Flows and field
parameters observed at this site were consistent with previous baseline vahres. No mining
occurred during 1997 in the Spring 10.13 watershed.
Steven's Gulch
.•
Two springs were monitored within the Steven's Gulch drainage (refer to Table 1 and Map No.
4-1) in 1997. Spring 25 lies below an area of the East mine inactive since 1982. This site had
measurable flow in Mazch, May, September and November with field parameters collected
consistent with prior measurements. Spring 25 has been identified as and adjudicated water
right within the permit azea.
Five springs with ponds in the Stevens Gulch drainage, Spring and Pond 7-5, Spring and Pond
13-5, Spring and Pond 13-ti, Spring and Pond 23, Spring and Pond 24, were monitored
quarterly in 1997. Spring and Pond 7-5 was undemuned during 1983. The spring at this
location had measurable flow only in May. Spring and Pond 13-5 was undermined during the
last half of 1991. Spring and Pond 13-6 was undermined during the end of 1992. The springs
at 13-5 and 13-6 had measurable flows in May and November. Spring and Pond 23 and 24 had
Page 5 ar7
