Bowie Resources Limited •
Bowie No. 1 Mine
1997 Annual Hydrology Report
Steven's Gulch Colluvium Groundwater Mouitoring Wells:
Shallow groundwater monitoring wells, SM-1 and SM-9 (see Map No. 4-1) are in the Stevens
Gulch drainage. The wells aze monitored for water quality pazameters, water levels, and field
parameters to detect impacts associated with mining in the central pod. The required
monitoring for wells SM-1 and SM-9 is semi-annually during 1997 for water -evels and field
pazameters. Well SM-1 is adjacent to areas minedm 1991 and 1992. Field data collected during
1997 shows no apparent mining impacts. Well SM-9 was undemilned by Panel C during 1993
and still shows no impacts in the field data collected during 1997. No anomalous water quality
observations were apparent during 1997 at the Stevens Gulch shallow groundwater monitoring
wells.
Surface Water Monitoring Stations: PONDS
East Roatcap Creek
Fifteen ponds in the East Roatcap Creek drainage were monitored during 1997 (refer to Table 1
and Map No. 4-1). Ponds were monitored quarterly for water levels and field pazameters if they
were discharging. Water quality samples were collected in May. The ponds were not accessible
during the first quarter monitoring because of the lingering snow-pack. No evidence of mine
impacts was noted. No retreat mining was conducted neaz any ponds during 1997 in the East •.
Roatcap Creek drainage. During 1994 retreat mining was done under Ponds 10-1, 10-2, 10-3,
10-4 and 10-11. Advance mining occurred under ponds 88 and 14-2 in 1997. The East
Roatcap Creek Ponds were physically intact throughout 1997 and showed no subsidence effects.
West Roatcap Creek
Two ponds in the West Roatcap Creek drainage (refec to Table 1 and Map No. 4-1) were
monitored during 1997. The ponds were monitored quarterly for water levels and field
parameters if they were discharging. The ponds were not accessible during the first quarter
monitoring because of the lingering snow-pack. A water quality sample was collected from
both of the West Roatcap Creek ponds in May and the resuhs were consistent with baseline
information collected in the past but flow rates were elevated. No evidence of mine impacts
was noted. The West Roatcap Creek ponds were physically intact throughout 1997 and showed
no subsidence effects. No retreat mining was conducted neaz any ponds during 1997 in the
West Roatcap Creek drainage.
Steven's Gulch
Five ponds were monitored within the Steven's Gulch drainage (refer to Table 5 and Map No. 4-
1). Ponds 85 and 13-7 were monitored quarterly for water levels and field parameters. Pond 85
was undermined by Pane113 in 1992. Pond 13-7 was also undermined during 1992. No
subsidence impacts or other irregularities were evident at either ofthese locations during 1997.
•~
