This is a former coal stockpile area and is relatively
flat: hence, it will be referred to as the "flat" grassland
' area. The third portion includes the roads east of Hubbard
Creek which led from the mine gate to the portals and to the
slope toe. These reclaimed roeds were not sampled.
' Sample locations are indicated on the enclosed map,
adapted Exhibit Q. Cover transects 7 and 8 were located within
'
the flat area. Production plots 13, 14, and 15 and woody stem
' quadrats 7, 8, and 15 were also placed in the flat grassland
area. All other transects, plots, and quadrats were located
' within the slope area.
2. Riparian Community
' The riparian community as shown on Exhibit Q extends from
the northwest corner of the permit area south along Hubbard
Creek. Exhibit CC of the permit application indicates that
' reclamation took place in the northwest portion of that
community. The reclaimed area is split by Hubbard Creek. The
' western part, which is the larger of the two, will be referred
to as the "west" riparian reclaimed area. The eastern portion
("east" riparian reclaimed area) may be higher in elevation
and visually resembles the grassland reclaimed community more
' closely than it does the west riparian area.
The east riparain area contained the following samples:
' 6
