1
to be concerned. The previous two years were very dry years
for the site. Additionally, the choice was made, due to
grazing patterns, to sample the site in late June. Peak
t vegetative growth had probably not been reached and would be
expected to increase over the following two or three weeks.
' Additionally the site is only at the midpoint of the bond
liability period.
1
' If there is a concern regarding grassland community
cover, it would involve the flat area. The sloped grassland
' area averaged 33.0 total herbaceous cover and 30.8 ~ total
perennial herbaceous cover. In contrast, the flat area, while
' averaging 37.0 % total herbaceous cover, only had 20 $ total
perennial cover. 45.9 % of the total herbaceous cover in the
flat area was contributed by annual grasses and forbs. The
soil in this area is hard packed, which probably has
' negatively impacted the quality of the vegetation. However,
perenial grasses and forbs are present and will probably
' increase in importance in coming years.
1 Production: (Table 3; summary in Table 10).
' Total herbaceous production for the community was
' determined to be 36.3 grams per 1/4 meter squared plot, or
1397 pounds per acre. 93.2 % (1217 pounds per acre) of the
' total production was contributed by perennials. The grassland
community has not yet reached success in terms of the
production standard, though, for the same reasons as stated
1
12
1
