Wedge Overhutden. Eight wells; YOV1, 9, 15, 19, 22, 28, 29 and 30; monitor the Wedge •
overburden. Wells YOV22 and 28 exist in the Armand Draw basin, all others exist in the
Sage Creek basin. Most wells exhibit typical seasonal fluctvationa, although some lag
time for the spring recharge is ohserved. Well YOV28 (downgradient of the current mine
pit) has experienced a decrease in water levels since August 1996. Walla YOV20 and 22
were abandoned in August 1998 in preparation far haul road construction.
Wedge Coal. Nine walla: Yw2, 7, 16, 18, 21, 23, 28, 29, and 30; monitor the coal seam.
Wells YW21, 23, and 28 exist in the Armand Draw basin, all others exist in the gage Creek
basin. Due to the low aquifer tranamissivities, seasonal rater level fluctuaticna are
moth less pronounced than the alluvium and overburden, and axe often masked by water
sampling effects. Well YW28 (dorngradient of the current mine pit) has experienced
decreasing water levels since October 1996. Wells YW21 and 23 were abandoned in August
1998 in preparation for haul road construction.
Wedge Vnderburden. Five walla; YWU16, 17, 28, 29, and 30; monitor the Wedge underbusden.
' Well YWU28 axis to in the~Annand Drar. basin, all others exist in the Sage Creek basin.
"• ~ :.Moat of these relle do' not exhibit any~'~significant seasonal variation,' although some ' •
variation from year-to-year is evident. Wall YWU2B (dorngradient of the current mine pit)
. has experienced decreasing water levels from June 1996 to September 1997, but has recently
experienced a rise in rater levels. ~ '
Wolf Creek Coal~and'Vnderburden. One .yell each monitors these two unite, YWC31 and
YWCU31. Well YWC31 exhibits very little seasonal variation. Well YWCV31 is normally dry.
Both wells exist in the Saqe Creek basin.
Ground Water Quality. Table d shops the ground rater parameter list used for all well
water samples. Appendix C provides all ground rater quality data collected during this
reporting period, along pith sampling remazk9. After the remarks is a statistic report
representing baseline (i.e., premining) data for each cell (rhere applicable). On this
statistics report, "censored data" refers to analytical values that rare below the
detection limit which were censored from the min/maw/mean calculations. The time frame
for baseline condi tiona is listed under "conditions specified" at the bottom of earn page.
The baseline sta trstics report is follored by a plot of TDS versus time for the entire
period of record. The regression line on this plot is generated by a method known as •
LOWESS (Locally Weighted Scatterplot Smoothing). A smoothness factor of 1 (on a scale of
4
