Introduction
The information assembled in this 1998 Annual Hydrology Report (AHR) includes data
collected from approved monitoring sites established at Seneca Coal Company's (SCC) Yoa9t
Mina (State Permit No. C-94-082). Locations of monitoring sites discussed in this report
can be found by referring to Exhibit 7-1, Hydrology Monitoring Map, which may be found in
the Yoaat Hine Permit Application Package (PAP).
All references to 1998 (or to "this year") will be for Water Ye ax 1998 (October 1, 1997
through September 30, 1998) unless otherwise noted. A11 tables referred to in the
following text can be found in Appendix A. In addition, a table of contents for Appendix
A is given at the begiru~ing of that appendix.
The Yoaet Mine permit went into effect on August B, 1995. Overburden removal began in
October 1996. Figure 1 shows the area mined in 1998. Mining this year has occurred in
the Armand Draw basin (NPDESI O) and the Graaay Creek basin INPDESI I).

Field conductivity and pH meters were calibrated prior to each day's use. The
conductivity meter is calibrated using a potassium chloride solution with an electrical
conductivity in' the 1000 to 3000 umho s/® range. The pH meter ie calibrated using NHS
traceable buffers with pH values of 7 and 10. Lab analyses have been performed by ACZ
Laboratory in Steamboat Springs, Colorado since May 31, 1983. ACZ Laboratory performs all
analyses by EPA or equivalent methods. Samples are delivered the dny oP collection to the
lab in an iced cooler.
SCC instituted in 1995 a new monitoring site numbering system for its new PazadoxTM water
quality database. This new system is detailed in Table A. For convenience sake, thi9
table has been placed at the end of the Table of Contents (see previous page).
After their review of last year's Yoast AHR, the CDMG made several augges tiona to be
incorporated into this year's AHRe. The first auggeation concerned the use of Colorado
Department of Health water quality standards. Those changes have been implemented in the
following ground and surface water use sections.
•
1
