HERBACEOUS PRODUCTION: The performance standard for this parameter is calculated
similar to the cover performance standard, except that the factor of 2 is omitted. Where 520.1 =
oven-dry ib/ac production in the Seneca II Mountain Brush reference area and 710.9 =oven-dry
Ib/ac production in the Seneca II Sagebrush reference area.
WOODY PLANT DENSITY: For purposes of illustration, woody plant density at the Seneca II
Mine is evaluated in this document using a technical standard of year 2001 shrubs per acre. In
future years, Woody Plant Density sampling will be refined such that special shrub planting uriats
are defined and monitored separately from other areas at the mine. These special shrub planting
units will be evaluated using a technical standard of year 2001 stems per acre and all other areas
wilt be evaluated using a lower standard.
Climatic Data
SCC provided precipitation data from the Seneca II Mine for the period of January 1982 through
September 2001. Since the long-term average for the mine exists for only 17 years, the long-
term average monthly precipitation data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAH) for the nearby town of Hayden was used as an appropriate base for
comparison. Information of degree-days was also derived from the NOAA records at Hayden.
RESULTS
Data from the 2001 revegetation monitoring studies at the Seneca I1 Mine are presented in
Tables 1 through 15 contained in Appendix 1. The list of plant species observed during these
studies (reclaimed and reference areas) are included in Table 16 in Appendix 2. Seed mixes
applied on areas revegetated prior to 1981 and in years 1981 through 1993 are included for
reference in Appendix 3. Photographs of representative locations within the reclaimed areas
sampled in 2001, as well as photographs of the Mountain Brush and Sagebrush reference areas
are included in Appendix 4. Graphic depiction of summaries of vegetation data, precipitation, and
total degree days are presented in Figures 1 through 10 of this report.
In the cover descriptions below, species listed as "also present' were not "hit" during point-
intercept sampling but were present within one meter on, either side of the 50 m sample transect
line. Cover percentages referred to in the following results as "percent of total vegetation cover"
are relative vegetation values.
