Cattany
Acting Division Director
The Division of Minerals and Geology has completed review of the 2000 and 2001
Annual Hydrology Report (AHR) for the Raton Creek Mine.
2000 Annual Hvdrologv Report Review
Monitoring Frequencv
1. The hydrologic monitoring plan during the reporting period requires monthly visits
with measurement of water level, temperature, pH, and E.C. for the Refuse well
and the luppa well. All visits were conducted in accordance with the approved
plan.
2. Monitoring frequency, specific to laboratory sampling requirements, was met on
a semi-annual basis for the luppa well and on a quarterly basis for the Refuse
well.
Water Quantity and Quality
3. No significant changes attributable to mining have occurred regarding water
levels in the two monitoring wells. Water quality shows no degradation affecting
any probable use. Field conductivity (EC) values are noted substantially less
(1228 umhos/cm) than the total dissolved solids (TDS) value of 1840 mg/I for the
luppa well. A similar effect was noted in the Refuse well. Normally, TDS is less
than EC, with a ratio of about .75 as a general rule of thumb. Please check the
calibration of your field equipment.
2001 Annual Hvdrologv Report Review
Monitoring Frequencv
1. The hydrologic monitoring plan was changed by revision to the approved permit
during the reporting period. The luppa and Refuse wells are monitored for water
