• they were provided in unofficial form by the Colorado Climate Data Center at Colorado State
University in Fort Collins).
RESULTS
Data from the 1996 revegetation monitoring studies at the Seneca II-W Mine are presented in
Tables 1 and 2 contained in Appendix 1. The list of plant species observed during these studies
(reclaimed and reference areas) are included in Table 7 in Appendix 2. Seed mixes applied on
areas revegetated in years 1991 through 1993 are included for reference in Appendix 3. Site
data from sample transects (orientation, slope, aspect, and initials of samplers) are included as
Table 8 in Appendix 4. Photographs of representative locations within the 1991/1993
Reclaimed Area sampled in 1996 are included in Appendix 5
In the following descriptions, species that were encountered quantitatively (i.e. "hit" by a
sample point) are described first for a particular lifeform. Species listed as "also present"
were not hit but were present within one meter to either side of the sample transect.
1991/1993 Reclaimed Areas
•
C ver (Table 1)
Introduced annual grass was the dominant life form in this unit with 42.1 percent of total
vegetation cover. Cheatgrass (Anisantha tectorum) and Japanese brome (Bromus
~aponicus) each accounted for roughly half of this average. Native perennial cool season
grasses averaged 25.5 percent of total vegetation cover. Mountain brome (Ceratochloa
carinata) accounted for more than one-third of this average. Agassiz bluegrass (Poa
aaassizensis) and slender wheatgrass (Elymus trachKcaulus) were also important.
Introduced perennial cool season grasses averaged 3.0 percent of total vegetation cover.
Introduced annual and biennial forbs averaged 18.9 percent of total vegetation cover.
Twolobe speedwell (Pocilla biloba) accounted for nearly half of this average. Yellow
sweetclover (Melilotus officinalis) was also important. Native annual and biennial forbs
•
5
