• Chloride
Chloride concentrations at Spring 3 over the past eight water years have remained
consistent, ranging from 34 to 50 mg/L throughout the period. Concentrations in Spring 4
have decreased significantly over the same period until this water year. In the 1994 and
1995 water years, concentrations were in the 45-59 mg/L range, while the most recent
concentrations range between 29 and 34 mg/L (2000 and 2001 water years). This water
year, first quarter concentrations were elevated, at 54 mg/L, though they subsequently
dropped to 47 mg/L during the March 2002 sampling.
Calcium
Calcium concentrations at both springs have remained consistent over the past seven
reporting years. Spring 3 concentrations (ranging from 400-515 mg/L) remain higher than
those of Spring 4 (ranging from 280-380 mg/L).
Magnesium
Spring 3 magnesium concentrations have remained variable but consistent over the
reporting period, ranging from 170 to 250 mg/L. Spring 4 magnesium concentrations
have slightly decreased over the same period from averages in the 165 mg/L range (water
• years 1995-1996) to an average in the 125 mg/L range during the 2000 and 2001 water
years. This water year, Spring 4 magnesium concentrations were elevated during the
December and March sampling, to levels within the higher end of the historic range.
Manganese
As with magnesium concentrations, manganese concentrations at the springs have shown
different trends over the reporting period. Concentrations at Spring 3 have remained
consistent and lower than Spring 4 during the reporting period, while concentrations at
Spring 4 have significantly decreased by an order of magnitude during the same time (from
2.3 mg/L (WY1995) to 0.24 mg/L (WY2001) total concentration). This water year,
manganese concentrations were at or close to the lower detection limits.
Sodium
Sodium concentrations at both springs have remained fairly variable over the last eight
years. Spring 3 concentrations have remained in the 89-120 mg/L range, while Spring 4
concentrations have fluctuated more, ranging from 96-150 mg/L. The highest
concentration was reported from the December 2001 sampling. The March 2002 level
was lower and within the historic range. The sodium adsorption ratios for both springs
reflect the same overall trend as sodium concentrations.
•
Gabon Junction Mlne Page 8
Annual Hydrologk Repoli far Water Year?A02
