1
' years, this water right is expected to be out of pri-
' ority from July to September, but in 1977 it would have
been out of priority from April to September.
The 10-acre-foot capacity pond provides for water
' storage during the term of permit; two ponds are anti-
' cipated for subsequent permit terms. Average with-
drawals are not expected to exceed 50,000 gpd during
the term of permit and are likely to be on the order of
15,000 gpd.
~ 1

1

1
1
1
1
1

Water from the freshwater pond(s) is either treated to
meet potable and sanitary water requirements, used and
then treated as sanitary waste water, or it is with-
drawn for dust suppression in the mine in which case it
then becomes mine water.
Total water withdrawals from the North Fork during
Water Year 1983 were approximately 10 acre-feet. Most
of this water withdrawal occurred from late October
1982 to late July, 1983. Water use during the period
of late July through the end of the water year was from
water storage as the mine's water rights were out of
priority. Low flow in the North Fork during Water Year
1983 was 36 cfs on December 12 and again on February
15. The maximum withdrawal at the intake is 450 gpm
with both pumps operating. This is less than 3% of the
observed low flow in the river during Water Year
-26-
