The permit added approximately 7,689 acres to the previously <br />permitted area. The expanded area lies beneath approximately seven miles of RCR 27 and <br />RCR 33. <br />The 3100 foot section of RCR 27 in question is built into the base of a portion of the Twentymile <br />Sandstone Cliff. This area is due to be undermined by the expanded coal extraction activities in <br />tha latter half of 1995 as allowed by SUP #93-233. The undermining may cause subsidence <br />which may increase the danger of rock and debris falls from the cliff onto areas that include the <br />existing alignment of RCR 27. <br />The Colorado Department of Minerals and Geology along with Twentymile Caal Company were <br />concerned with public safety in regards to the increased potential of rockfall on to this portion of <br />
